Government to seek 'alternative' solutions to nuclear waste disposal
The administration of US president Donald Trump announced last week its budget call to Congress for fiscal year 2021. Unlike previous years, the $4.8tn proposal included no funding for the development of the national nuclear waste repository at the Yucca Mountain site in Nevada.According to the budget justification, the Trump administration remains “strongly committed” to fulfil its obligation to manage the US nuclear waste and “will not stand idly given the stalemate on Yucca Mountain.”However, the document said the standstill around the Yucca Mountain project has “gone on too long.”
