Spanish authorities have granted a lifetime extension to the Trillo nuclear power station, in the central Guadalajara region, allowing operations to continue for 10 more years.

A statement by operator Centrales Nucleares Almaraz-Trillo (CNAT) said Trillo-1, a single Westinghouse-designed 1,003-MW pressurised water reactor unit, will now be able to operate commercially until 16 November 2034.

The permit was issued by Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge after a positive assessment by the country’s nuclear regulator in July.
