“The Taishan 2 EPR reactor has just reached 100% nominal power, this milestone marks the culmination of several years of work,” Framatome said on social media on 7 August. “It is also the recognition of Framatome's expertise in the commissioning of nuclear reactors.”
Taishan-2, construction of which began in April 2010, is expected to enter commercial operation later this year.
The Taishan nuclear power station is a joint Chinese-French infrastructure project. China General Nuclear Group (CGN) has a 70% share in the project and France’s state-controlled EDF Group 30%.
Taishan-1 was connected to the on 29 June 2018 and began commercial operation on 13 December 2018.
The two Taishan units are the third and fourth EPR units under construction globally. The first two are Olkiluoto-3 in Finland and Flamanville-3 in France. Construction began at a fifth and sixth EPR at Hinkley Point C in England in 2017.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, there are 48 nuclear units in commercial operation in China and nine under construction
