Sweden-based small modular reactor (SMR) developer Blykalla will break ground next month on its advanced reactor test facility at the Oskarshamn nuclear site to the south of Stockholm.

This test site will host a non-nuclear electrical reactor that is being developed by Blykalla and European energy giant Uniper in collaboration with engineering company ABB.

Blykalla said the landmark is a major step for Swedish nuclear innovation and “puts us at the forefront of advanced nuclear technology in Europe”.

Ground will formally be broken at a ceremony on 3 February by deputy prime minister and minister for energy, business, and industry Ebba Busch.
