Public support for nuclear energy in the Czech Republic has reached a record 85%, with energy security and geopolitical tensions behind backing for new nuclear capacity, according to a survey by Ipsos in cooperation with Czech state utility ČEZ.

The survey found 97% of respondents believe it is necessary for the country to maintain energy self-sufficiency, while concerns over possible dependence on electricity imports have increased since late 2025.

According to the findings, 66% associate import dependence with higher electricity prices and 54% with unstable supplies. About one-third said loss of energy self-sufficiency would represent a direct security risk for the state.
