China’s State Council has approved the construction of six new commercial nuclear power plants as it seeks to increase its installed reactor capacity from 51 GW at the end of 2020 to 70 GW by 2025, state media outlets reported.
The China Daily newspaper said two new units will be built at each of three sites: Sanmen, in Zhejiang province, eastern China; Haiyang, in Shandong province, eastern China; and Lufeng in the southern province of Guangdong. The approvals are for Sanmen-3 and -4, Haiyang-3 and -4 and Lufeng-5 and -6.
