China’s state council has approved construction of a demonstration ACP100 small modular reactor on a site next to the existing Changjiang nuclear power station in the island province of Hainan off the country’s southeast coast, China Nuclear Energy Association said.

The multi-purpose 125-MW pressurised water reactor – also referred to as the Linglong One – is designed for electricity production, heating, steam production or seawater desalination.
