The company said work under the contract will take four years and will be carried out in two phases – two years at Barseback and two years at Oskarshamn. No value for the contract was disclosed.
The contract covers the cutting of components from the dismantling of the reactors at both facilities. GDES will also carry out post-segmentation work on four reactor pressure vessels, and the cutting and dismantling of the inlet and outlet lines of the hydraulic control rod drive housings.
According to GDES, the decommissioning contract is a first for the company on the Swedish market. GDES has worked on similar projects in Spain, Italy, France, the UK and the US.
The two 600-MW boiling water reactor units at Barseback were shut down in 1999 and 2005. Oskarshamn-1, a 473-MW BWR, and Oskarshamn-2, a 638-MW BWR, were shut down in 2017 and 2016.
