State-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has taken a stake in the Bill Gates-founded US nuclear technology company TerraPower, joining fellow South Korean energy company SK Innovation as an investor.
TerraPower said that KHNP joined as an investor to help support the construction of its Natrium advanced nuclear site in the US state of Wyoming, and would help with its plans to build other plants in the US and abroad, including in South Korea.
SK Innovation said this week that it had transferred part of its 10% stake in TerraPower to KHNP to form a three-way alliance. Reports in South Korea estimated KHNP’s investment at $40m (€34m). SK Innovation’s original investment in TerraPower was $250m.
