Small modular reactor technology being developed in the US by NuScale is “a great fit” for Australia because it can complement renewable energy sources like wind and solar and provide the reliable, load-following power needed to address the intermittency of renewable power.In a written submission to a government inquiry into the prerequisites for nuclear energy in Australia NuScale said it has invested over US$850m to develop, licence, and commercialse its SMR technology, which has over 485 patents granted or pending in 20 countries.
