US-based NuScale and Nucor Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the deployment of NuScale’s Voygr small modular nuclear reactor power plants to provide electricity to Nucor’s scrap-based electric arc furnace steel mills.

The companies will also explore an expanded manufacturing partnership through which Nucor, the largest steel producer and recycler of any type of material in North America, would supply Eqonic steel products for NuScale projects.

Nucor says Econiq is the world’s first net-zero carbon steel at scale, introduced to offer steel consumers emissions-free steel products to help meet their sustainability goals.
