Serbia expects to start the construction of a nuclear power plant by 2035, after completion of the initial phase of its nuclear energy initiative planned for next year, energy minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said.
Djedovic Handanovic said in a statement on 13 July that Serbia’s goal is to complete the first phase of its nuclear energy initiative by the middle of next year.
The first phase will include a comprehensive analysis of the legal and regulatory framework required for construction of a nuclear power plant and will mean Serbia has all the information it needs to make a decision on further development.
“By 2032, we expect to be ready in institutional, regulatory, and professional terms to select the technology and begin the construction process by 2035,” Djedovic Handanovic said.
