Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has approved an extension of the operating lifetimes of two reactors at Kyushu Electric Power Company’s Sendai nuclear power station beyond 40 years.

The approval will allow the company to extend the lifetimes of Senda-1 and Sendai-2 at the station, in Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan, for another 20 years in principle, taking their lifetimes to 60 years.
