A local council in Scotland will ask the UK Government to carry out a study into the possibility of creating a new nuclear power station at the existing Torness site.
East Lothian Council said it had agreed at a meeting to ask the leader of the local authority, Norman Hampshire, to write to the Ed Miliband, secretary of state for energy security and net zero.
The letter will request that the UK government provides funding to undertake a full and independent survey of the Torness site that will establish its suitability for a new nuclear power station.
