The worldwide coronavirus pandemic has temporarily impacted some of WANO’s activities, but the association has already established provisional dates for its regional centres to resume peer reviews and member support missions over the coming months.

Ingemar Engkvist, chief executive officer of the global nuclear industry safety organisation, told NucNet that in the interest of prioritising safety during the pandemic, a number of activities had been postponed, including peer review and member support mission schedules at WANO’s regional centres in Atlanta, Moscow, Paris and Tokyo.

Mr Engkvist, who took up his position in January 2020, said the provisional dates to resume these activities are subject to the control of the pandemic in individual countries, and their governments’ policies related to international travel and access to plants.
