Russia’s nuclear fuel company Tvel and the Centre for Energy Research of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences have signed a contract for the supply of Russian nuclear fuel for the Budapest research reactor.
Tvel did not say how much the long-term contract was worth, but said it is for fuel supplies starting from 2019.

The Budapest research reactor is used for scientific and applied research in nuclear physics and material studies and in particular for developing nuclear power in Hungary.
The unit, a water-cooled, water-moderated Soviet designed plant that went critical in 1959, is used for studying the properties of reactor materials and nuclear fuel cycle.
Since it began operation it has used fuel produced by Tvel subsidiary the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant. From 2012, the reactor core has been entirely loaded with low-enriched fuel assemblies only.
