Russia-based Uranium Enrichment Centre (UEC), a joint venture between Russian nuclear fuel manufacture Tvel and Kazakh uranium miner Kazatomprom, has started the delivery of low-enriched uranium for the joint China-Kazakhstan Ulba fuel assembly plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk, eastern Kazakhstan.
The plant, a joint venture between Kazatomprom subsidiary UMP JSC, with 51%, and China’s CGNPC-URC, a subsidiary of China General Nuclear Power Group, with 49%, was officially opened earlier this week.
