Russia’s Regulator Grants Unit 1 Operating Extension Until 2031

Russia’s nuclear regulator Rostechnadzor has granted an operating licence extension until 2031 for Unit 1 of the Rostov nuclear power station near Volgodonsk in southwest Russian. The 950-MW pressurised water reactor unit began commercial operation in December 2001 so can now operate for 30 years.As of 9 January, the unit had generated 148.2 TWh (gross) of electricity since it started operations in 2001, state nuclear corporation Rosatom said recently.
