Russia’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mikhail Ulyanov has called for an extraordinary IAEA board meeting following drone attacks on the Zaporizhizhia nuclear power station in Ukraine on the night of 7 April.
Ulyanov said on social media platform X on 8 April that “Russia requested an extraordinary session of the board with regard to the recent attacks and provocations of the armed forces of Ukraine against the ZNPP”.
His comments followed the International Atomic Energy Agency’s condemnation of the attack the same day without clarifying at that point who was behind it.
The IAEA has a 35-nation board of governors and any of its members can call for an extraordinary meeting.
