The reactor pressure vessel (RPV) has been installed at the Zhangzhou-2 nuclear power plant under construction in Fujian province, southeastern China, owner China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) said.
Zhangzhou-2 is a domestic 1,126-MW HPR1000, or Hualong One, pressurised water reactor (PWR) under construction since September 2020. The unit is scheduled for commercial operation in 2025, according to earlier reports.
The RPV, which usually weighs about 300 tonnes, is one of the largest reactor components, containing the nuclear reactor coolant, core shroud, and the reactor core and fuel.
