Rosatom Confirms Start Of Construction At India’s Kudankulam-3

30 Jun (NucNet): Concrete has been poured for the foundation slab of the Kudankulam-3 reactor compartment in India, marking the start of construction works at the site in Tamil Nadu state, southern India, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom said on 29 June 2017. In 2014, Russia and India signed a general framework agreement for the construction of Kudankulam-3 and -4, the second phase of the Kudankulam station. In November 2016, Rosatom’s nuclear equipment manufacturing company Atomenergomash said it had begun manufacturing major components for Kudankulam-3. Both units will be of the Russia-designed VVER-1000 pressurised water reactor type. In a statement yesterday Rosatom said Russia and India have plans to build at least 12 Russian-designed nuclear power units in India before 2020. Earlier this month Atomstroyexport Group, the engineering division of Rosatom, signed a general framework agreement and a credit agreement with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd for the construction of Units 5 and 6 at Kudankulam.
