Switzerland’s fleet of four commercial nuclear power units operated safely during 2020 with the number of reported incidents slightly below the average for previous years, an initial report by Swiss nuclear regulator Ensi shows.

There were two incidents at Beznau-1; one at Beznau-2; five concerning both plants at Beznau; six at Gösgen; three at Leibstadt; and four at Mühleberg, which has been shut down and is being decommissioned.

There were three incidents involving core installations at the Paul Scherrer Institute; two at the Crocus research and teaching reactor in Lausanne; and three at the ZZL central interim storage facility.

On 7 December 2020, deviations in the vibration dampers of two emergency diesel generators were discovered at Beznau as part of a review of seismic standards.
