Sweden’s renewed commitment to nuclear power highlights growing global interest in this clean source of energy to address the twin challenges of tackling climate change and meeting increased electricity demand, International Atomic Energy Agency director-general Rafael Mariano Grossi said during this week’s official visit to the Nordic nation.

Travelling to Stockholm for the first time since he took office almost four years ago, Grossi met senior government officials including foreign minister Tobias Billstrom and climate and environment minister Romina Pourmokhtari, as well as the heads of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company, and state utility Vattenfall.
