The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) has proposed changing existing laws to pave the way for the introduction of new reactor technology and new operating models.

SSM said it wants to introduce a process for early evaluation of new reactor technology and to identify any obstacles to new-build permits.

The government had asked SSM to look at conditions for the use of existing and future nuclear power.

SSM said it had identified a need for the development of rules for both known and new reactor technology.
