20 Sept (NucNet): France’s nuclear regulator has told Électricité de France (EDF) to find the cause of an abnormal level of tritium found in groundwater in a concrete geotechnical enclosure beneath the four-unit Tricastin nuclear plant.
The tritium measured in the enclosure between the reactor islands of Tricastin-2 and -3, which prevents groundwater from coming into contact with the water table, posed no challenge to health or the environment, the French nuclear safety authority ASN (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire) said.
But it said EDF should go ahead with “enhanced” groundwater monitoring and determine cause of the abnormal presence of tritium.
