The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has confirmed the completion of phases one and two of its vendor design review (VDR) process for the BWRX-300 small modular reactor design, but said there are technical areas that need further work by developer GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH).
CNSC said GEH showed overall a correct understanding of regulatory requirements for the design of nuclear power plants in Canada and the commission sees no “fundamental barriers” to future licensing.
