Russian nuclear regulator Rostechnadzor has issued a statement of compliance with technical regulations and project documentation for the Leningrad 2-2 nuclear power plant ahead of commercial operation scheduled by the end of March, operator Rosenergoatom said.
According to Rosenergoatom, a 15-day final testing programme, which began in late February at operating levels of 100% of the unit’s design output, was completed on 10 March.
Construction of the VVER-1200 Generation III+ pressurised water reactor began in April 2010. The unit was connected to Russia’s power grid and started to deliver electrical energy for the first time on 22 October 2020. It reached maximum power levels on 3 January 2021.
