India’s Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has approved the pouring of concrete for two new nuclear power plants at the Gorakhpur nuclear site in the northern state of Haryana.
The AERB also announced it had approved the siting of two new plants at the Kaiga nuclear station in Karnataka state, southwest India.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited is planning to build four 700-MW (gross) pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR) plants at Gorakhpur. The AERB issued siting consent in July 2015 and consent for site excavation for the first two units, Gorakhpur-1 and -2, in January 2018.
