The UK's gas and electricity markets regulator Ofgem has granted an electricity generating licence to Bradwell Power Generation Company, which is planning to build a China-designed plant at the new Bradwell B nuclear station in Essex, southeast England.
The company submitted its application to Ofgem in June and it was made it available for public comment until 18 August.
The licence authorises Bradwell B to generate electricity “for the purpose of giving a supply to any premises or enabling a supply to be so given”.
China General Nuclear is a majority shareholder in Bradwell Power Generation Company, a joint venture with France’s state-controlled EDF, which is planning to build a single HPR1000 plant at Bradwell. The two companies are also working together to build Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C.
