Prodigy Clean Energy and two Indigenous groups have chosen BWX Technologies’ (BWXT) Advanced Nuclear Reactor, or BANR, for a transportable nuclear power plant (TNPP) to be deployed by the early 2030s in Belledune, New Brunswick, Canada.

Canada-based Prodigy, which designs and develops TNPPs, recently announced the Indigenous-led nuclear new build proposal for Belledune. The proposal calls for a TNPP of up to 50 MW within the traditional territory of the Pabineau and Eel River Bar First Nations.

BWXT, which is headquartered in the US, said the pilot project will be Indigenous-owned and validate plant logistics and operational requirements, creating the commercial blueprint to mass deploy a TNPP fleet across Canada’s North and global export markets.
