The process of resuming regulatory control at the Chernobyl nuclear power station, which was occupied and then abandoned by Russian forces, has begun, International Atomic Energy Agency director-general Rafael Grossi said.

Mr Grossi also said Ukraine reported that the next rotation of operational personnel working at the site will be possible only when security conditions allow it. Many personnel live in the city of Slavutych outside the 30-km exclusion zone set up after the 1986 accident.

Ukraine said the preparatory work for the next rotation included an assessment of staff security.
