Poland is moving from the planning phase towards realisation of its first commercial nuclear power station project, with preparatory work picking up and regulatory and financing steps advancing, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) president Marek Woszczyk said.

Poland has chosen US-based Westinghouse to supply its AP1000 pressurised water reactor technology for a first three-unit nuclear power station in Pomerania, on the Baltic coast in the north of the country. In 2023, Westinghouse and US engineering company Bechtel formed a consortium for the project.

Woszczyk told the Baltic Nuclear Energy Forum (BNEF) in Gdańsk that work at the coastal site is continuing in line with the project schedule, with early-stage activities and supporting infrastructure work already underway.
