Nuclear power will remain the dominant source for power generation in Bulgaria until 2030 accounting for 14.1 TWh, despite the government’s plans to increase renewable power capacity, data and analytics company GlobalData said.
According to GlobalData, electricity demand in Bulgaria stood at 30.9 TWh in 2020, more than half of which is fulfilled by nuclear power generation. International Atomic Energy Agency data shows nuclear’s share of electricity production stood at 37.5% in 2019.
Bulgaria has one nuclear power station at Kozloduy with two VVER units. The country has plans to build a new unit at the Kozloduy site and two more units at the Belene site.
