Indonesia has announced the inclusion of nuclear power plants in the country’s general electricity plan for 2033, paving the way for what could be construction of the first commercial reactors in the Southeast Asian nation.

Eniya Listiani Dewi, director-general of new, renewable energy and energy conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources was quoted by local media as saying the government is also discussing the establishment of an organisation to oversee the implementation of a new build programme.

Eniya said she has had multiple discussions about nuclear energy with coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
