The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has accepted NuScale Power’s standard design approval (SDA) application for its Voygr-6 nuclear power plant for formal review.
Small modular reactor developer NuScale said the NRC has docketed the application for its Voygr-6 plant design featuring an uprated 77 MW small modular nuclear reactor.
The NRC began a technical review of the application earlier this year with the remainder of the review on hold until the company provides additional details on a key safety topic.
According to the NRC, portions of NuScale’s application discussing steam generator safety performance under certain conditions required more information.
The NRC has provided a 24-month review schedule for approval, which NuScale said will “align with the timing needs” of its US customers.
