A new public-private collaboration has announced a roadmap designed to boost the deployment of nuclear energy capacity by at least 50 GW per year by the 2030s.

The Nuclear Scaling Initiative (NSI), a joint effort of the Clean Air Task Force (CATF), the EFI Foundation and the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NSI), lays out a plan to rapidly expand nuclear energy and overcome financial and regulatory obstacles while ensuring that advanced reactor technologies remain safe and that weapons-usable materials is kept out of the nuclear supply chain.

According the International Atomic Energy Agency, current global nuclear capacity stands at about 377 GW.

According to the NSI, a US and Europe-based collaboration focused on scaling nuclear energy while reducing nuclear threats, initial efforts will target the US and Central and Eastern Europe.
