South Korea’s environment ministry has added nuclear power generation to the country’s taxonomy.

The development of nuclear energy-related technologies such as small modular reactors has been added to a list of “green activities”, while the construction and operation of reactors have been labelled as “transitional activities” for achieving carbon neutrality.

Environment minister Han Hwa-jin said including the economic activities of nuclear power plants in the green classification system will serve as” an opportunity to enhance the safety and environmental characteristics of nuclear power plants”.
