The Polish secretary of state for strategic energy infrastructure Piotr Naimski signed what Washington has called an “historic” nuclear cooperation agreement with the US on the development of Poland’s $40bn nuclear power programme.

The contents of the agreement were initially concluded during a virtual ceremony with Mr Naimski and US energy secretary Dan Brouillette.

According to a statement by the Polish prime minister’s office, the workings of the deal will be supervised by a joint Polish-US committee which will convene in the coming months.

The committee will prepare a report within 18 months to be used by Poland when it considers its choice of nuclear technology for its nuclear programme.
