25 Apr (NucNet): Berkeley Resources said it has been granted a mining licence for the Retortillo uranium deposit, part of its flagship Salamanca Project in western Spain.
The Australia-based mineral exploration company said the Retortillo deposit is the first of its resources in Spain from which production is scheduled to commence, and the granting of the mining licence is a major milestone, following the completion of a number of studies and technical review sessions with relevant government agencies.
Berkeley Resources said the licence is valid for an initial 30 years, but can be renewed for two additional periods of 30 years.
Retortillo would be Spain’s only operating uranium mine, but further permits are needed before operations can begin, the company said.
