Nuclear plant is Russia-made VVER-1200 Generation III+ unit
The lower tier of the inner containment dome has been lifted into place at the Tianwan-8 nuclear power plant under construction in in Jiangsu province, eastern China, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) said.
The tier has a diameter of 44 metres at its base and is just over 12 metres high. The upper dome part will be lifted and welded into position in a separate operation.

Russia supplied the VVER-1000 pressurised water reactor technology for Tianwan-1, -2, -3, and -4, while Tianwan-5 and -6 are a domestic CNP-1000 PWR units.
Construction of Tianwan-7 began in May 2021 and of Tianwan-8 in February 2022. Both units will be Russia-made VVER-1200 Generation III+ PWRs.
The Tianwan nuclear station is owned and operated by Jiangsu Nuclear Power Company, a joint venture between CNNC (50%), China Power Investment Corporation (30%) and Jiangsu Guoxin Group (20%).
According to International Atomic Energy Agency data, China has 55 nuclear power plants in commercial operation and 23 under construction.
