KHNP Requests Approval Extension For Shin-Hanul Units
South Korea plans to retire 11 of its 24 commercial nuclear reactors by 2030.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has asked for an extension to the end of 2023 for the construction plan approval period for Units 3 and 4 of the Shin-Hanul nuclear power station, press reports in South Korea said.

The company, a subsidiary of the state-owned Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco), received government approval for the units in February 2017, but it has yet to obtain the construction plan approval, Business Korea reported.

KHNP had planned to complete construction of the two units in late 2022 and late 2023, but the projects have been suspended because of the South Korean government’s nuclear power phaseout policy.
