The owner and operator of the Tokai-2 nuclear power plant northeast of Tokyo is expected to further delay the complete implementation of stricter safety measures, state broadcaster NHK reported.
NHK quoted sources as saying the Japan Atomic Power Company (Japco) has decided to reschedule the completion date for work that is being done to build a tsunami and storm surge barrier at the 1,060-MW boiling water reactor unit in Ibaraki Prefecture.
According to NHK, Japco planned to complete the work by September of this year, but it now expects the work to be finished by December 2026, a potential delay of more than two years
