Mr Magwood was selected for the award for his outstanding leadership, achievements, and contributions to the progress in nuclear safety technology and peaceful use of nuclear energy, and his “competence, expertise, and ability in the advocacy of present and future nuclear technology”.
The award will be presented to Mr Magwood on 15 November 2022 at an INSC meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, said the award committee.
Mr Magwood has been at the helm of the NEA since September 2014. From 2010 to 2014, he served as one of the five commissioners to the US nuclear regulator, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
The biennial INSC global award is given to nuclear professionals who have contributed to the development of nuclear innovation and technology and the expansion of peaceful uses of nuclear energy internationally.
The INSC, a global forum for nuclear societies, was set up in 1990 and has a membership of more than 120,000 nuclear science and engineering professionals in 38 national and regional nuclear societies.
