Sanaocun, also known as Zhejiang Sanao, has two domestic 1,117-MW Hualong One units under construction – Sanaocun-1 since December 2020 and Sanaocun-2 a year later.
The dome is part of the reactor building’s hermetic protection system, designed to withstand high external and internal pressures and protect against radiation release.
CNEA said lifting the dome into place marks the end of main civil construction work and the Sanaocun-1 project will now move onto the equipment installation stage.
The association said six Hualong One units will be deployed at Sanaocun, with Sanaocun-1 and -2 making for the first phase of the project.
The Hualong One, or HPR1000, is a three-loop pressurised water reactor which incorporates elements of China National Nuclear Corporation’s ACP1000 and CGN’s ACPR1000+ reactor designs.
China has only two Hualong One units in commercial operation at Fuqing, also in Fujian province, southeastern China. A total of ten is under construction at various sites.
