The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Japan have agreed on the scope of technical assistance the UN agency will provide in monitoring and reviewing the planned discharge of treated water from the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power station.
The IAEA said in a statement that its involvement in the water disposal process will provide confidence in Japan and globally that it takes place in line with international safety standards which aim to protect people and the environment.
