The US House of Representatives voted 220 to 185 to pass the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act, which creates a high-assay, low-enriched uranium (Haleu) research and development programme to develop Haleu fuel for advanced nuclear reactors by 31 December 2025.
The bill, which must now go to the Senate, expands Department of Energy programmes for a range of commercial nuclear reactors and encourages the development of new, advanced reactor designs.
