France plans to have the nation’s entire fleet of 56 commercial nuclear power reactors online by early next year, with officials saying state-owned operator EDF is “on board” with the schedule.

The minister of energy transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, said EDF has undertaken to restart all the reactors this winter to help the country through an energy crisis aggravated by the war in Ukraine.

“We are monitoring the situation closely with weekly updates and we are being especially vigilant to ensure that this schedule is kept,” she said.

Pannier-Runacher said 32 reactors are shut down, some for inspections and repairs related to stress corrosion and others for routine maintenance.
