Bulgaria is preparing to sign agreements with US-based Westinghouse Electric Company and France’s state-controlled EDF for engineering studies for the proposed construction of new nuclear power units at the Kozloduy and Belene sites.
Deputy minister of energy Elenko Bozhkov told the local Nova television that one of the agreements will be a front-end engineering and design (Feed) study with Westinghouse for the building of two AP1000 pressurised water reactor (PWR) units at the existing Kozloduy nuclear power station site.
Bozhkov said another Feed agreement is expected to be signed with EDF for possible construction of two 1,000-MW PWR units at the new Belene site using VVER equipment delivered by Russia between 2016 and 2018.
