US-based Global Laser Enrichment (GLE) is set to invest $1.76bn (€1.51bn) in a uranium enrichment site in Kentucky and will receive a 15-year $98.9m million tax and economic incentive package from the state and regional county to help its development.

The investment to establish the Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility (PLEF) is one of the largest on record for the state of Kentucky and would create 240 jobs, according to the state’s governor.

The site is next to the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, which enriched uranium from 1952 to 2013 for military reactors and weapons and subsequently for commercial purposes.
