The US-based Fusion Industry Association (FIA) has called on the US government to prioritise four key fusion programmes in fiscal year 2025 by allocating payments of about $200m (€182m) with the aim of accelerating the commercialisation of fusion power.

The FIA said in a letter sent to the Department of Energy (DOE) that it fully supports funding for the four programmes: a milestone-based development programme at $105m, an alternative and enabling concepts programme at $50m, a fusion innovation and research engine (Fire) collaborative programme at $60m and a programme to identify and fund new fusion infrastructure.

The FIA said fusion energy holds the promise of providing safe, reliable, and scalable power.
